84%

of Russians feel helpless as they face the growing risk of losing control over their data on the Internet

More than half of Russians (52%) believe that they can’t protect themselves from identity theft, and 55% are concerned that their online activities can be recorded and analysed. Despite this, one in two (49%) is ready to provide personal information if they understand and accept how it will be used. These findings were shared by researchers from HSE ISSEK following an online survey of Russian web users (3,000 people aged 14 and older, November 2020).

Social attitudes regarding personal data manipulation and related risks (% of respondents, November 2020)
